The inaugural Cure on the Colorado fundraising event, presented by the Friends of Science Park, was a very successful and enjoyable night. The steering committee was composed of Science Park staff and volunteers from Friends of Science Park. Over 325 people attended the event held at Riverbend Park on September 25, 2010. Approximately 115 items were featured in the silent auction, which were solicited by Friends of Science Park. The live auction was led by Jim Rosborough, who donated his time, and featured 13 items, with a pair Texas vs. Texas A&M tickets donated by Dr. David Johnson fetching the top price. A BBQ dinner was followed by a double set live show featuring Marc Cosgrove, John Kirk and Trish Miller, who were accompanied by Enid and Rick Wood at times. Funds raised at the event will benefit educational activities at the Science Park of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, which is located just 50 miles east of Austin in the Lost Pines area outside Smithville. This Central Texas research facility is recognized as a world leader in research on cancer cause and prevention. The next Cure on the Colorado event will be held in the Spring of 2012.
