Pathology of transgenic and gene targeted mice, pathology of rodent models of carcinogenesis, and the role of acyl-CoA binding protein in carcinogenesis
Current Research
Research in Dr. McArthur’s laboratory focuses on the involvement of lipid metabolism in carcinogenesis. This includes studies of ACBP (acyl Co-A Binding Protein) in carcinogenesis and the transitional cell carcinoma that develops in a transgenic mouse that over-expresses COX-2 (cyclo-oxygenase 2) in the urothelium under the bovine keratin 5 promoter.
Due to my extensive training and experience in pathology, especially the characterization of genetically engineered mice, I am involved in numerous collaborative projects with multiple members of the Department of Carcinogenesis faculty. These collaborations allow significant contributions to the understanding of rodent models of cell cycle regulation, carcinogenesis, and cancer therapeutics. This has recently been formalized with my appointment as co-Director of the Cancer Center Support Grant – Mutant Mouse Pathology Service. Dr. Donna Kusewitt, recently recruited to the Department of Carcinogenesis, serves as the Director of the service, a fee for service pathology service, for a number of investigators.
