Our Excellent Y2K Adventure-the Celebration
By the time we got back to camp on the 31st, the sun was below the cliffs. However, it was somewhat warmer than the night before, and we were pretty comfortable. Party time!

Roger brought some tasteful decorations that he placed around our campsite to get everyone psyched up for the party. The ornaments even danced a little in the light breeze.
Nothing says Happy New Year like one of Susie's giant brownies, baked over the "Bakepacker". These really hit the spot after dinner. Talk about livin' large!

And the perfect accompanyment for brownies is champagne, right? Well, this was actually a little later in the evening-or maybe earlier; it's all kind of hazy now. Anyway, as you can see, Roger is really getting into the party spirit(s). Dick Clark can only dream of good times like this.
We brought an ample supply of noisemakers. I seriously doubt that anyone else heard these, although we later met another hiker who was camped just a few miles downstream from us with his dog. Of course, if we had known that, we would have been more discreet ;-)

After counting down the seconds on Roger's GPS receiver, we toast the New Year, century, and millennium. Whatever, we toasted it. (From left to right: Susie, Roger, Sue and Andy). Boy were we stuffed. Nothing like smoked salmon and brie to chase fudge brownies. Hey everyone! Happy New Year!
