Xin Chen

Graduate Student

Xin Chen earned a Bachelor degree of Medicine at Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He was then recruited as a Master’s student by Dr. Dean G. Tang at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), majoring in cancer biology.  He was supported by a HEB predoctoral fellowship and worked on a project focused on targeting the simian virus 40 (SV40) T/t antigens to the stem/progenitor cell-containing CK5 cellular compartment in transgenic mice. Through this work, his colleagues and him provided evidence that CK5 compartment is crucial for normal animal development and might also be susceptible to tumorigenic transformation. In addition, he performed experiments on characterizing a tamoxifen-dependent inducible mouse model. After two and a half years of study, he received his master degree of science. Now he is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in GSBS, and dedicated himself in cancer research.
