Community Science Night Live

To enhance scientific literacy and public understanding of current research discoveries, COEP is the sponsor of Community Science Night (CSN Live). CSN Live is a component of the CENTIPEDe (Community Education Networks To Integrate Prevention of Environmental Disease) Project, supported by the HHMI. CSN Live targets community residents, students, teachers and parents with the goal of promoting healthy lifestyle choices, increasing community scientific literacy, and stimulating interest in environmental health science research careers and discoveries. Hablando de Salud

Each week Dr Irma Gimenez-Conti D.D.S, Ph.D., (Histology Core Director), hosts Hablando de Salud (Speaking of Health), a radio show on Community Radio Station KOOP, 91.7 FM. Listeners have the opportunity to contact the station with questions or general topics of interest. The main subjects of discussion are cancer, cancer prevention and dispelling myths associated with cancer. The goals of the program Hablando de Salud are:

  • To educate the public about Health issues, in particular Spanish speaking and underserved communities with bilingual component;
  • To increase public awareness about environmental diseases and preventions;
  • To promote interaction between health specialists and the community; and
  • To make environmental health research accessible to the general public.
