Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the LPC Steering Committee, we wish to announce that the 21st Lost Pines Conference on Cellular and Molecular Biology will be held on the weekend of November 2-4, 2007, at the Science Park campus of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Smithville, Texas. The 2007 LPC will be highlighted by Dr. Paul Modrich as our Keynote Speaker. Dr. Modrich is the James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry at Duke University Medical Center and is an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Paul's laboratory uses biochemical approaches to elucidate the molecular mechanism(s) of mismatch repair in human cells and to determine its role in the cellular responses to DNA damage. Among numerous awards and honors, he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

A description of the meeting, registration form, and map are enclosed with this announcement. We also have a web site with this information available for downloading, and will offer on-line registration and payment as last year (http://sciencepark.mdanderson.org/sites/lpc/). In addition to its traditional collegial atmosphere (see our t-shirt gallery at http://sciencepark.mdanderson.org/sites/lpc/) and high level of scientific discourse, the LPC is a terrific bargain; registration fees, including meals, refreshments, entertainment and the conference abstract book, are $100 for faculty, $75 for postdoctoral scientists, and $60 for graduate and undergraduate students.

Please note that individual conferees are responsible for making hotel reservations themselves. We have blocks of rooms in Bastrop hotels set aside for the conference, as listed in the registration materials enclosed. It is important for you to have completed every aspect of the registration process, including making your hotel reservations, by the deadline of October 1, 2007. The hotels will not hold rooms for the conference beyond 6 PM on this date. Therefore, we encourage you to register early.

We will have live music ("The Gene-O-Tones", fajitas, and a cash bar for the Saturday night banquet, as well as the best central Texas barbeque and beer for opening night, so come prepared to enjoy both the great food and even better science. See you there!

On behalf of the 2007 LPC Steering Committee and Sponsors,
